We work across Athens-Clarke County and outward from it. If you are inside the county, we cover you. If you are in one of the towns around it, we very likely cover you too, and the fastest way to be certain is to tell us the address.
Athens-Clarke County
The whole county, in town and out: the older neighborhoods with mature canopy over narrow streets, the newer subdivisions on the edges, and the properties out toward the county line with more land and bigger trees.
In-town work and out-of-town work are genuinely different jobs. Close to the center, the constraint is usually access and what sits underneath the tree: power drops, parked cars, fences, and neighbors close on both sides. Further out, the trees are often larger and the constraint is getting equipment across a yard without leaving ruts in it. We quote for the property, not from a rate card.

This is the reason this page exists rather than being a list of place names.
The towns around Athens sit across several different counties, including Oconee, Madison, Jackson, Barrow, and Oglethorpe. Tree regulation is local, so it is not the same on both sides of a county line, even for identical trees on identical lots.
Two concrete examples of how different it gets:
Athens-Clarke County runs a Community Tree Management Ordinance built around canopy. It defines protected trees, sets criteria for when a protected tree may be removed, and requires replacement in certain cases. For most private residential lots it is permissive: outside the Milledge Avenue Overlay District, trees on lots not developed since 2005 are not regulated by the ordinance, and non-protected private trees may be removed at any time for any reason.
Oconee County, which includes Watkinsville and Bishop, does not run that ordinance. Its tree-related regulation works mainly through timber harvesting rules, where the harvest permit comes from the Georgia Forestry Commission and is forwarded to the county, alongside landscaping and buffer standards covering removal for development or removal without replanting, and land-disturbance permitting.
So a homeowner in Watkinsville and a homeowner in Athens can be asking us the same question and need a different answer. We work out which applies before we quote, because it can change the job.
